In this paper we argue, from an inferential approach, that the inferential role played by a model, during modeling practice, is independent of the notion of representation engaged with the chosen modeling approach. Indeed, we believe that the notion of surrogative reasoning is neither subsidiary nor founded on the notion of representation and that it will only find its foundations in logic itself. Neither the notion of representation is an inferential notion nor FIM is a type of representation-based thinking.

Objective: The aim of this research was to study the mediation of body dissatisfaction, physical self-concept, and body mass index (BMI) on the relationship between physical activity and self-concept in adolescents. Materials and Methods: A sample of 652 Spanish students between 12 and 17 years participated in a cross-sectional study. Physical self-concept and general self-concept were assessed with the Physical Self-Concept Questionnaire (CAF), body dissatisfaction with the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ), and physical activity was estimated with the International Physical Activity (...) Questionnaire (IPAQ-SF). BMI was utilized as a measurement of body composition. Structural equation modeling was used to assess the results. Results: The resulting models showed good fit indexes. Physical activity had a positive and indirect effect on self-concept (β = 0.29, p < 0.01) and direct effects on dissatisfaction (β = -0.26, p < 0.01) and physical self-concept (β = 0.20, p < 0.01). BMI had a direct effect on dissatisfaction (β = 0.31, p < 0.01) and on physical self-concept (β = -0.10, p < 0.01) and an indirect effect on general self-concept (β = -0.24, p < 0.01). However, it was only associated with physical activity in males, playing a mediating role between physical activity and body dissatisfaction. Conclusion: Physical activity can help individuals to achieve a positive self-concept and promote psychological well-being in adolescents through the improvement of physical perceptions and body satisfaction. The importance of BMI, body dissatisfaction, and physical self-concept on the configuration of the self-concept are also emphasized. Educational policymakers and Physical Education teachers should implement strategies to promote physical activity in the schools and provide a Quality Physical Education programs to increase physical activity during adolescence. El objeto de este libro es mostrar quién fue, qué pensó y cual es el sentido, para nosotros, del pensamiento de Abu al-Ualíd Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Ahmad Ibn Ruxd, en adelante Averroes, nombre que deriva de la latinización del apelativo Ibn Ruxd, nacido en Córdoba en 1126 y muerto en Marrakex en 1181. Su impronta en la cultura de su tiempo le hizo figurar nada menos que entre el auténtico canon onomástico de la teología y (...) la filosofía medievales que supuso La Divina Comedia de Dante, o en el parnaso de la filosofía de Rafael en "La escuela de Atenas". Y eso no resulta incompatible con su peso central en el pensamiento racionalista que marcó el rumbo de la modernidad de donde surge nuestro mundo presente. Averroes supone una cima del pensamiento universal en cualquier tiempo y lugar. Entre los límites cronológicos que encierran una vida como la de Averroes no podemos lograr totalidades, más allá de un conjunto de fragmentos, indicios, referencias indirectas procedentes de datos que nos ofrecen autores contemporáneos o sucesores. El conjunto de todas esas informaciones, que forman la biografía del filósofo, resulta ser muy escaso y poco ilustrativo si lo comparamos con la trayectoria de su pensamiento, un proceso intelectual cuyo prodigioso esfuerzo racional deja en la sombra al Averroes persona en beneficio del Averroes pensador. Frente a los momentos destacados de una vida, cuyos límites espaciales o geográficos vienen determinados por continuos desplazamientos de ida y vuelta entre Córdoba, Sevilla y Marrakex, lugares donde desempeñó cargos oficiales, sobresale un constante y sostenido esfuerzo intelectual plasmado en sus 92 obras escritas en 72 años de vida del filósofo. resumo Neste trabalho é analisada a estratégia da exposição de Fichte em seu escrito Sobre o conceito da Doutrina da Ciência e interpretada como indo de encontro a um determinado tipo do ceticismo moderno. Todavia, ao contrário da leitura proposta por Rockmore, que sustenta ser possível considerar toda a epistemologia fichteana dessa época como uma linha de argumentação de cunho pragmático e antifundacionista, defende-se a tese de que Fichte está comprometido desde o início com a tarefa de uma fundamentação última (...) de toda ciência a partir de um primeiro princípio. Esta fundamentação seria levada a cabo mediante uma demonstração indireta que pretende refutar de modo muito original objeções levantadas por Maimon, por Schulze e outros contra a filosofia transcendental de Kant. In recent decades, there has been a proliferation among the scientific community of works that focus on Alan Turing’s contributions to the design and development of the modern computer. However, there are significant discrepancies among these studies, to such a point that some of them cast serious doubts on Alan Turing’s work with respect to today’s computer, and there are others that staunchly defend his leading role, as well as other studies that set out more well-balanced opinions. Faced with this (...) situation, the aim of this paper is to analyse the evidence existing today in order to be able to draw a conclusion about whether or not Turing anticipated the trivialisation of the modern computer memory and, likewise, if his universal a-machine is the precursor of the general-purpose computer so omnipresent today. As a result of our research, the authors conclude that Turing did indeed play a leading role in the appearance of the modern computer, although he was not the only one or the first in the field of Computing Science, albeit he was the most influential, both in scope and in depth. O presente artigo trata da influência exercida pela filosofia kantiana na actualidade a partir da chamada crise da Modernidade ilustrada. Os autores começam por analisar o posicionamento original kantiano, incidindo especialmente na sua concepção do criticismo e do transcendentalismo. Esta análise é feita a partir da perspectiva da aberta pela Kritik der Urteilskraft enquanto marco do sistema da razão, capaz de incorporar a finitude da mesma. Seguidamente são analisadas a recepção e a transformação do pensamento kantiano a partir de duas (...) correntes filosóflcas actuais: o Racionalismo Crítico de Karl Popper e Hans Albert, e a Pragmática Transcendental da linguagem de Karl-Otto Apel. Em ambos os casos se compara o sen modo próprio de incorporar as noções de crítica e transcendentalidade com a concepção original de Kant. /// The article addresses the influence of Kantian philosophy in contemporary thought from the view point of the crisis of illustrated Modernity. The authors start by analyzing the original Kantian position, whereby particular attention is given to his conception of criticism and transcendentalism. This analysis is worked out from the perspective of the Kritik der Urteilskraft as a frame for the system of reason, able to incorporate the finitude of reason itself This is followed by a detailed analysis of the reception and the transformation of illustrated thinking performed by two contemporary philosophical schools: Critical Rationalism (Karl Popper and Hans Albert), and Transcendental Pragmatics of language (Karl-Otto Apel). Leibniz can be considered a source of inspiration for both the moment of the emergence of modernity as well as for the moment of the crisis of Enlightenment. Despite his influence on various authors, Leibniz does not let himself be identified with the core of Enlightenment thinking that was prevalent in the Western world in recent centuries. We are therefore faced with a (...) thinking that in its development depends neither on the enlightened modernity, nor on the principal alternative, hermeneutics. Thus, the span of Leibniz's thought ranges from the time before the Enlightenment through to post-hermeneutics. This volume presents a selection of articles from the "IV Congreso Internacional Leibniz: G. W. Leibniz entre la genesis y la crisis de la Modernidad" which was selected by the "Sociedad Espanola Leibniz" held in Granada. German, English, & French text. German description: Die Philosophie G. W. On pose la question de la justification du principe de la raison suffisante dans la philosophic leibnizienne. On part de la portée universelle que Leibniz attribue au principe dans beaucoup de textes. Mais en même temps Leibniz montre aussi certains limites de ce principe qui empechent, au moins apparemment, son universalité. II s'agit des champs dont il n'est pas possible de rendre raison. Turing was an exceptional mathematician with a peculiar and fascinating personality and yet he remains largely unknown. In fact, he might be considered the father of the von Neumann architecture computer and the pioneer of Artificial Intelligence. And all thanks to his machines; both those that Church called “Turing machines” and the a-, c-, o-, unorganized- and p-machines, which gave rise to evolutionary computations and genetic programming as well as connectionism and learning. La pregunta por el hombre ha generado distintas respuestas. Las antropologías están ligadas a los códigos culturales y en éstos han sido determinantes las teologías. En esta breve reflexión se analizan las antropologías hebreas, griegas y cristianas, comparándolas y especificando sus aportaciones a la cultura occidental. Se concluye con algunas indicaciones sobre la discusión antropológica actual.

O presente artigo parte do princípio de que há uma relação intrínseca entre a metafísica e a teodkeia. A primeira é um sistema que oferece sentido, inteligibilidade, verdade e universalidade. O seu pressuposto fundamental é o de Parménides e o de Hegel, ou seja, a correspondência entre ser e pensamento, a racionalidade do real e a realidade do racional. Este é o ponto de partida da teologia natural grega, do teísmo cosmológico cristão, do teísmo antropológico moderno e das filosofias do (...) progresso dos últimos séculos. A teodiceia procura superar o último obstáculo que se opõe a esses sistemas, o mal na sua tripla dimensão de mal metafísico, físico e moral. O mal é impermeável à razão e sem sentido, ou seja, é aquilo que mais impede a transparência e a inteligibilidade do mundo. Começando por assumir esta proposta, o autor analisa finalmente a crise actual do sujeito e da metafísica, a crise pós-mo-derna da razão e dos sistemas universais. O novo contexto em que nos encontramos, o de uma metafísica débil, oferece novas oportunidades à proposta cristã, à impossibilidade da teodiceia como teoria especulativa e à possibilidade de uma resposta de sentido e comprometida com aquilo que é o maior dos sem-sentidos, o mal. /// There is an intrinsk relation between metaphysics and theodicy. The first one is a system which offers meaning, intelligibility, truth and universality. Its fundamental presupposition is the Parmenidian one and the Hegelian one, the correspondence between being and thought, the rationality of what is real and the reality of what is rational. This is the starting point of the Greek natural theology, of the Christian cosmologkal theism, of the modern anthropological theism and of the philosophies of progress of the last centuries. Theodicy tries to overcome the last obstacle whkh opposes to those systems, evil in its triple dimension of metaphysical, physical and moral evil. Evil is not rationable norfunctionable, it is what does not have meaning, what hinders the world's transparency and intelligibility. The author assumes this in order to finally analyse the crisis of the subject and of metaphysks, the postmodern crisis of reason and of universal systems. His claim is that this new context, the one of feeble metaphysks, offers new opportunities to the Christian proposal, whereby it asserts at the same time the impossibility of theodicy as a speculative theory and the possibility of a meaningful and committed answer to what is the biggest of all meaningless things, evil. /// Hay una relación intrínseca entre la metafísica y la teodicea. La primera es un sistema que ofrece sentido, inteligibilidad, verdad y universalidad. Su presupuesto fundamental es el parmenideo y hegeliano: la correspondencia entre ser y pensamiento, la racionalidad de lo real y la realidad de lo rational. Chondrogenesis is a key process in skeletogenesis since endochondral ossification requires the formation of a cartilaginous template. Knowledge of molecular mechanisms regulating chondrogenesis is extremely valuable not only to understand many human disorders but also in regenerative medicine. Embryonic skeletogenesis is an excellent model to study this mechanism. Most cartilages share the cellular basis underlying chondrogenesis but the high heterogeneity in morphologies of the different skeletal elements appears to be generated by differential participation of a variety of chondrogenic signals. Here (...) we overview the regulatory factors responsible for chondrogenesis concluding that early chondrogenic signals for the digit cartilages differ from those implicated in the formation of other axial and appendicular skeletal components.
